IOT – why should I care about it.

You run a small or medium size (SMB) business, and you heard about IOT. Now you wonder if you need to put up with another IT jargon. If you answer yes, you are not alone!!! Traditionally any innovation in the Information Technology is viewed with skepticism by the SMB business. IOT is no exception. So, what’s IOT.

IOT is the acronym for “Internet of Things”. Basically it’s another way that technology knocks on your door (via mobile phone, computer, etc) to alert you of potential issues, so you can take corrective action before it happens. Use case 2 - Air conditioner manufacturer / installation and servicing company – The sensor can monitor refrigerant leak, circuit faults and alert home owner and servicing company before it results in costly repairs.

Use case 3- Home security - When someone rings the door bell, send notification to the home owner, probably with an image.

Use case 4 – Fish Farm – To monitor water temperature and oxygen content

Use case 5 – Manufacturing industries – To monitor various machines and alert before break down

Now you get the idea!!! Some of your businesses could be an excellent candidate for IOT, some may not be. If your business primarily deals with equipment in remote locations, it would be a good candidate for IOT.
